As a 21-time world champion, he’s leveraged 40 years of experience to develop transformational processes of winning that help to build Champion Men.

The Nice Guy Trait No One Talks About

A lot of men bump up against this and don’t even realize it, and it ultimately becomes an origin point for a lot of other issues nice guys face in their relationships. So let’s get talking.

Britt Frank – Motivation, Anxiety, And The Science Of Stuck

This. Was. So enjoyable. Britt has a gift for cutting through to the heart of seemingly complex topics. Her book, The Science of Stuck, resonated with me in the best way, so I had to have her on the show. We cover a lot, but mainly where to begin working with anxiety, motivation, and feeling stuck—things I think every one of us has experienced on some level.

Born and raised in NY, Britt struggled for more than two decades with chemical/behavioral addictions, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, OCD, trichotillomania, crazy-making relationships, and complex PTSD.  After finding her way out of that mess (with a lot of help and a brief stint in a religious cult), Britt changed careers, went back to graduate school, and became a therapist.

Britt received her undergraduate degree from Duke University and her master’s degree from the University of Kansas. She is a licensed psychotherapist and trauma expert who is trained in IFS (Internal Family Systems) and SE (Somatic Experiencing). In addition to her private practice, Britt is also a speaker and an award-winning adjunct instructor at the University of Kansas, where she’s taught classes on ethics, addiction, and clinical social work.

Dr. Nicholas Brüss – A Deep Dive Into Psychedelics, Part 1

I met Nick recently at a social function, and his gentle, heavily researched, and welcoming approach to topics psychedelics, internal family systems therapy, and more was deeply edifying. So I’ve asked him to come on the show for two longer episodes.

Part 1 is about the fears and worries people can have around psychedelic experiences, and an overview of how they work and what their potential is. If you’ve ever been interested in this field, now’s your chance to get in on the ground floor!

Dr. Nicholas Bruss is a licensed psychotherapist in Los Angeles, CA, specializing in integrative, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). He is certified in Mindfulness Facilitation at UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC), Los Angeles, CA, and as a Compassion Cultivation Teacher at Stanford University’s Center for Compassion, Altruism, Research and Education (CCARE), Stanford, CA. Dr. Brüss is a therapist at the Los Angeles site for the MAPS-sponsored Phase III clinical trial of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD.

Defining Purpose

You see (and read, and hear) a LOT about purpose. What it is, where to find it, yada yada yada. I’m not so sure purpose is that easily defined. I’m not convinced it’s something you can even find. Why? You’ll just have to listen in.

Men’s Work Session – Healing The Masculine Within

I want to begin by saying how grateful I am for each and every man who steps into these sessions. This can be difficult, uncomfortable, painful work. My guest this week came to me struggling with confidence and self-worth, which was (as we found out) connected to his father’s anger. Listen in.

What Every Man Should Know About Sex

Specifically, about how his nervous system handles sex.

Continuing on the theme this week—first Dr. Laurie Watson and now my own work. I’ve asked this question at men’s weekends, in coachings, and the answer almost always surprises me. A lot of men know the very, very basics of arousal in their own bodies, but that’s…it. Let’s change that.

Dr. Laurie Watson – How To Ask For Sex, Sexless Marriages, And How To Keep Things Vibrant

Sex is where so many couples’ abilities to communicate, be vulnerable, be expressive, and navigate each other’s needs gets tested. Now, this can be a great thing—it can also be where things fall apart.

This week, I sat down with Dr. Laurie Watson to get her insight on some of the bigger challenges men and couples face sexually: sexless marriages, expressing your desires effectively, and the straight-up differences in how men and women approach sex. This was a thoroughly enjoyable conversation, so if you’re with a partner, I hope you listen together and maybe open up some dialogue!

Laurie Watson, Ph.D., MA, LMFT, LCMHC, Director of Awakenings, certified sex therapist, certified EFT therapist, certified addictions specialist from IICS, has thirty years of experience working with couples and individuals about love and sex. Laurie says, “I’ve never seen a couple who I didn’t feel hope for about their healing and happiness.”

Laurie is the host of the popular podcast, FOREPLAY RADIO, ranked in the top 10 on iTunes under Sexuality. Laurie authored her first book Wanting Sex Again—How to Rediscover Desire and Heal a Sexless Marriage in December 2012.

She’s a popular blogger, with over 15 million reads between her WebMD blog and Psychology Today Online. Laurie also lectures physician residents, PAs, and PTs at Duke’s and UNC Chapel Hill’s medical schools on sexual function and dysfunction.

She has been published or quoted in almost every nationally popular media resource including the New York Times, Buzzfeed, HuffPo, WebMD, Glamour, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Cosmopolitan, etc. A popular media figure, she has appeared on the Katie Couric Show and  Vogue Weddings and is regularly on radio and television in Raleigh and Greensboro.

Director/owner of Awakenings, Counseling for Couples and Sexuality, Laurie supervises 11 clinicians in both Raleigh and Greensboro.

This Is The Most Valuable Masculine Trait—Arguably

This is kind of a two-partner. I wanted to talk a little more about the idea of “toxic masculinity” and what that term does in practice to men—and why it does those things.

Secondly, I want to bring what I think is an incredibly misunderstood masculine trait. It’s not necessarily any of the classical ones like “strength” or “rationality”. It’s also something that requires cultivation, nuance, and respect for the world. Listen in.

Men’s Work Session – The Weight Of A Parent’s Depression

We all know intellectually that more than genetics gets passed down. Behaviors, opinions, and traumas can get transferred too. How it manifests, though, can be very different for every individual.

In this anonymous men’s work session, my guest and I work with the weight of a parent’s past trauma. For the parent, it was depression and rejection of her partner’s affection, but for my guest, it’s become something different. Listen in.
