This was the method I used for years as I tried to deal
with the obstacles and hardship in my life. I dealt with the stress, overwhelm, heartbreak, and lack of direction in my career by turning to my favorite coping mechanism (porn, drugs, booze, etc). But what does this do? It feeds the insecurities, doubts, and anxiety while adding more stress
and confusion to the mix.
Let me be clear. It didn’t work. And it likely hasn’t for you or
the men you know.
The truth is that too many men have traded their sovereignty, self-determination, and masculinity for comfort and validation.
So how do we, as men, get the most from ourselves and
lead ourselves effectively?
What I’ve learned about men is that we want to live with a deep sense of purpose, have integrity, and love the people around us, but haven’t been taught how to do this. We want to be competent and confident but often feel stuck and directionless.
That’s what Men’s Work is all about. It gives you a guide to leading yourself. To lead in your relationships, health, family, purpose, and finances in a way that feels meaningful, rewarding and fulfilling.
And, it does one very important thing that other books don’t: it gives you clear direction, tools and exercises to deal with the pain, harsh self-talk, and relentless sabotage that shows up in your past or present, so that you can build yourself into a man you respect.
This book is not about telling you how you should live as a man or about defining masculinity for you; however, it will help you refine and define your own versions of this as a result of doing the work.
Every now and then I come across a book that triggers a voice in my head that proclaims, ‘Damn, I wish I had written this―this is really good.’
“With this watershed book, Connor Beaton accomplishes the herculean task advanced by the forefathers of the modern men’s movement; Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, and Robert Bly of creating an actionable game plan for alchemizing men’s confusion, anger, and general male stupidity into purpose, healing, and mastery. From the Introduction on, Men’s Work grabbed me by the mind, heart, and balls, and didn’t let go.”
Men’s Work is a hero’s journey that I highly recommend to anyone looking to create a more peaceful, fulfilled, life of purpose.
“Connor Beaton eloquently illuminates the path for men to find deep healing and true freedom in their lives. A heavy burden is placed on men in our culture, and without guidance, they often suffer in silence.”
I can unequivocally say that this is the book every man needs.
“Connor does a beautiful job of inviting and leading us through our pain and back into our hearts. He reminds us that our darkness is to be embraced, not avoided.”
Connor Beaton is truly one of the most valuable voices on comprehensive manhood today.
“His passionate but straightforward approach, brilliantly unearths the excuses and vices that inhibit broken men from becoming whole. Men’s Work is a powerful guide that will help men introspectively navigate to the healing they desire and deserve.”
Connor Beaton is the founder of ManTalks, an international men’s movement focused on health, wellness, success, and fulfillment.
For almost a decade, Connor has helped men and women from all over the world grow in the realms of mental clarity, relational communication, life purpose and sexual intimacy.
After apprenticing with a pupil of Carl Jung, Connor developed a revolutionary approach to healing the Shadow – the part of our psyche that causes us to self-sabotage – by drawing from experiential and training-based methodologies like Jungian psychology, somatic therapy, along with transformative breathwork and meditative practices.
Known for his no-BS attitude and compassionate understanding of our own human limitations, Connor has organized and facilitated many transformational workshops and retreats and has shared the stage with world class speakers like Gary Vaynberchuk, Lewis Howes, Mark Groves (of @CreateTheLove), Gabrielle Bernstein, Mastin Kipp and
Danielle LaPorte.
He has also spoken on stage at TEDx, taken ManTalks to over a dozen cities internationally and has been featured on platforms like Forbes, Influencive, HeForShe, The Good Men Project, UN Women, CBC, CBS, and the National Post.
